Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen met here on Wednesday with Yemeni Foreign Minister Dr. Khalid Al Yamani to discuss and exchange views on the latest developments in Yemen
During the meeting, Al-Othaimeen affirmed the OIC's support for the unity and territorial integrity of Yemen and its legitimate leadership. He also expressed the readiness of the Organization to cooperate with the United Nations on Yemen through the extension of consultancy to the UN envoy and participation in the UN meetings to add to them the Islamic perspective.
The secretary general reviewed with his guest the humanitarian role played by the OIC within its coordinated action with King Salman Centre for Relief and Humanitarian Action and the various international organizations such as to contribute to alleviating the Yemeni people's suffering, caused by the putschist Houthi militia.
In turn, the foreign minister paid tribute to the OIC for its role in supporting the Yemeni people in all spheres, most notably in the area of humanitarian relief and assistance. He expressed appreciation for the role of the secretary general as a participant in most regional and international events on Yemen, particularly within the OIC Contact Group meeting on Yemen.
Al Yamani underlined the importance of qualitative coordination for the upcoming OIC Contact Group meeting, scheduled for the end of the current month in New York, on the margins of the UN General Assembly's annual gathering.
Also during the meeting, the two sides reiterated the importance of the continued and close coordination, given the positive impact it may have toward reaching a peaceful resolution to the Yemeni crisis, based on the Gulf Initiative and its executive mechanism, the Comprehensive National Dialogue outcome and the relevant UN Security Council's resolutions.
