The Islamic Solidarity Fund (ISF) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has decided to contribute $1.7 million to the Islamic University in Niger (IUIN) for the academic year 2017-2018, bringing the total contributions of the ISF to the university to some $38 million.
OIC Secretary General Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen explained that the grant comes in implementation of the resolution of the ISF Permanent Council in its latest session held at the headquarters of the OIC General Secretariat in Jeddah last February. He added that it is critically important to support the IUIN to serve the needs of French-speaking western African Muslim people, as well as supporting the university in its mission to spread Islamic culture and traditions throughout this very important part of the Muslim world.
The Islamic University in Niger was established as an affiliate body of the OIC, following a resolution from the 2nd Islamic Summit Conference held in Pakistan in February 1974.
