Cairo (UNA-OIC) � Speaker of the Arab Parliament Dr. Meshaal al-Salami, who leads a high-level parliamentary delegation, will meet with Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Dr. Yousef Al-Othaimeen, senior officials and permanent representatives of member states to the OIC, at the Organization's headquarters in Jeddah on Thursday.
In a statement issued here on Wednesday, the Arab Parliament said it will explain, during the meeting, its position on the major and strategic issues of the Arab world as well as the developments in Jerusalem and the rest of the Occupied Palestinian Territory, the Parliament's plan of action on US President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of the occupying power and its negative repercussions on the peace process.
The statement added that the meeting will also discuss the situation in Yemen and the acts and crimes of the Houthi militia against the Yemeni people in the areas under its control, in addition to its threat to the peace and security in the region through repeated attacks against the neighboring countries of Yemen and firing of Iranian-made ballistic missiles toward Saudi Arabia, and its threat to bomb the United Arab Emirates.
The Parliament will convey the appreciation of its members for the efforts of the Saudi-led Arab coalition forces fighting to restore legitimacy in Yemen, supporting the Yemeni people and maintaining the Arab national security.
The statement pointed out that during the meeting, the Arab Parliament's views on the phenomenon of terrorism, the expansion of terrorist groups and the challenges they pose to Arab national security, as well as the interventions of some regional countries into Arab affairs will be clarified.
It added that these meetings come in implementation of the Arab Parliament's decisions to activate parliamentary diplomacy through coordination and cooperation with all regional and international organizations, especially the OIC, to serve the issues and interests of the Arab nation at regional and international levels.
