OIC Secretary General awarded Honorary Doctorate by Russian Diplomatic Academy

The Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs awarded the Doctor Honoris Causa to Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen, at a ceremony held at the Academy's premises in Moscow Thursday, in the presence of diplomats, Political Science students and faculty members.

During the ceremony, Professor Evgeny Petrovich Bazhanov, president of the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Foreign Ministry, commended the role played by the OIC in bringing people together and its constant endeavor to support and promote peace in the world.

For his part, the OIC chief paid tribute to the esteemed Academy for granting him the degree. He also praised the Academy's achievements throughout its history with the graduation of thousands of diplomats around the world and the granting of the honoris causa degrees to a number of foreign leaders, ministers and politicians from around the globe.

Al-Othaimeen gave a lecture at the Academy's headquarters in Moscow on the OIC's work, actions and efforts to spread moderation of Islam, as well as the Organization's programs to combat extremism, violence and terrorism, and to promote its relations with friendly states, particularly the Russian Federation.
