Jeddah A delegation from the General Secretariat of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC) and the OIC Mission to the United Nations will participate in the meetings of the 62nd Session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW62) at the UN Headquarters in New York from 12 to 23 March.
The session will also be attended by members the OIC Women's Advisory Council (WAC), which was set up within the framework of the Ministerial Conference on Role of Women in the Development of Member States.
Participants will discuss issues relating to the protection of the rights of migrants and refugees, especially women and girls, and ways to enable them to obtain their rights and meet their needs. The session is expected to call on the international community to take specific steps to address humanitarian crises arising from migration and asylum matters.
The Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW), in partnership with the OIC, will organize a side event on the margins of this session on March 15, under the theme of "Empowering Women and Promoting Gender Justice in the Muslim World", to highlight the most important achievements and challenges of implementing the OIC Plan of Action for the Advancement of Women (OPAAW) and promoting gender equality. The event is also aimed at exchanging experiences among the women's empowerment institutions and strengthening cooperation with civil society organizations in this area.
