Over 1,000 landmines cleared in west of Yemen’s Taiz Governorate

A team of demining experts has cleared more than 1,000 landmines in Al-Wazea'iyah Directorate, west of Yemen's southwestern Governorate of Taiz.

Director of Al-Wazea'iyah Directorate Ahmed al-Dharafi was quoted by the official Yemen News Agency as saying that the demining experts managed, within several days, to clear more than 1,000 mines planted by the Houthi militias in the streets and villages in the center of the directorate. He added that coordination is underway with Yemen Executive Mine Action Centre (YEMAC) to clear the remaining mines in homes, farms and mountains.

Al-Dharafi called on local and international organizations to pay attention to the great humanitarian suffering of the Al-Wazea'iyah residents, especially with the recurrent incidents of mine victims including children and women, as well as the possibility of carrying out urgent relief programs for the displaced persons from different areas of the directorate and its surroundings.
