DUBAI,The Dubai Court of First Instance has charged a Pakistani resident on the basis of promoting illegal drugs via the social media platform, WhatsApp.
The 41-year-old driver was also accused of using narcotics, reported Khaleej Times.
The man was initially arrested in late December of last year.
According to a Dubai Police lieutenant in the anti-narcotics division, he said that a reliable source had tipped them off that the accused was taking and possessing drugs for peddling at his place in al-Waheeda.
We raided his place and he was found in his room in the upper floor. An amount of D6,950 was found in his pocket, which we suspected he made from selling drugs, he added.
However, the accused said that the money found was made by selling his car in earlier weeks.
Our information was that he used social media, including WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram, to peddle drugs. His mobile phone was seized and he was taken to the general directorate of anti-narcotics. He was later referred to the general directorate of criminal evidence for drug tests, said the lieutenant.
