PM Calls for Taking Global Action to Prevent Glacier Melt.


Baku: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called for taking urgent global action and coordinated efforts to prevent the melting of glaciers. He was addressing a ceremony in connection with the steps taken for the protection of glaciers in Baku today. The Prime Minister said Pakistan stands ready to work with the international community to protect these invaluable natural resources of glaciers. He said Glacier 2025 initiative provides a unique opportunity to address the issue of melting glaciers. Terming glaciers as lifeline for survival of mankind, the Prime Minister said glaciers are critical for global climate and water security. Shehbaz Sharif said that glaciers hold seventy percent of fresh water and protecting vital ecosystem. Talking about Pakistan, he said that Pakistan is home of over seven thousand glaciers which provides sixty to eighty percent of the Indus river flow and supporting ninety percent of agriculture.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister emphasized the critical role glaciers pl
ay in maintaining ecological balance and highlighted the serious implications of their rapid melting. He reiterated the importance of international collaboration in addressing this global challenge and stressed that initiatives like Glacier 2025 are pivotal in reversing the adverse effects of climate change. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also pointed out the significant impact of glacier melt on water security and agriculture, particularly in countries like Pakistan, which rely heavily on glacier-fed river systems.
