Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the immediate formation of a committee to control the prices of essential food items in the country. He gave these directions while chairing an inaugural session of the Federal Cabinet in Islamabad. The Prime Minister ordered that the committee, in collaboration with the provincial governments, will strictly monitor the prices of essential food items. The Prime Minister emphasized that strict action will be taken against unjustified price increase and profiteering in essential commodities. He stated that no leniency will be tolerated in this regard. Shehbaz Sharif said that the government increased the volume of Ramazan relief package from seven and a half billion to twelve and a half billion rupees. He further said mobile utility stores will also be activated to facilitate the people. The Prime Minister said that additional funds would be distributed among poor segments of society under Benazir Income support Programme. He said the government will fully monito r the distribution of funds under the BISP to ensure its transparency. In response to a recommendation by the Ministry of Commerce, the Federal Cabinet approved a restriction on the export of onions and bananas until 15th of next month. This measure aims to ensure ample availability in the market during the blessed month of Ramadan. Furthermore, the Federal Cabinet approved the reinstatement of Pakistani citizenship for Mr. Muhammad Orangzaib, a Dutch national residing in the Netherlands, based on the recommendation of the Ministry of Interior. In line with the Ministry of Narcotics Control's proposal, Major General Abdul Moeed Hilal Imtiaz Military has been appointed as the Director General of the Anti-Narcotics Force. Earlier, the Prime Minister congratulated the newly-appointed Cabinet members and expressed his best wishes for their tenure.
