National Assembly began its session at the parliament house in Islamabad today (Monday) with Speaker Asad Qaiser in the chair. At the outset, the house offered fateha for those martyred in recent acts of terrorism in the country.
Minister for Industries and Production Hammad Azhar has regretted that the previous governments ruined the tax system of the country by introducing tax measures through SROs.
Responding to the points raised by PML (N) leader Ahsan Iqbal in the National Assembly today, he said the present government has not taken any unconstitutional step vis-à-vis tax measures.
Adviser on Parliamentary Affairs Babar Awan clarified that the recent ordinance promulgated regarding tax measures is in accordance with the constitution. He said this ordinance will be laid before the lower house for legislation.
He said the government wants to take on board the opposition parties on the matter of legislation.
Babar Awan said a bill will be introduced by the government for judicial reforms. He invited the opposition parties to give their inputs on the bill as well as the electoral reforms.
Earlier PML (N) leader Ahsan Iqbal stated that the imposition of seven hundred billion rupees of taxes through an ordinance is breach of the parliament. He said the government should withdraw the ordinance and furnish the tax proposals before the National Assembly for discussion and approval.
The Speaker strongly condemned the killing of four youth in Jani Khel area of Bannu. He said effective measures need to be taken to curb such despicable incidents. He said those involved in the Jani Khel incident must be brought to book.
Adviser on Parliamentary Affairs Babar Awan laid before the house Capital Development Authority (Amendment) Ordinance 2021.
The House has now been adjourned to meet again on Thursday at four pm.
