Cairo Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Wednesday discussed the latest regional and international developments.
This came during a telephone conversation held by Sisi with Merkel to congratulate her on winning a fourth term in office, the Egyptian presidency said in a statement.
The German chancellor was sworn into office on March 14 afternoon after receiving 364 out of 709 votes in the first round of voting in parliament � nine more than required to gain an absolute majority.
According to the statement, the telephone call "discussed the latest developments of regional and international situations of mutual interest, as well as a number of topics of bilateral relations and ways to develop them."
President Sisi expressed Egypt's aspiration to continue to promote and develop outstanding relations with Germany in all fields of joint cooperation. In turn, the German chancellor confirmed her country's keenness to "continue to strengthen the strong bilateral relations between the two countries."
