Tesla stock falls after investigation announced into fatal crash

Los Angeles, (UNA-OIC) - Tesla stock dropped sharply this week after the US government announced it was investigating a fatal crash involving one of the company's electric cars.

On Friday, a Model X SUV hit the median strip of a road in the Californian city of Mountain View and flipped before being hit by oncoming vehicles. The male driver later succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

Two investigators had been sent to examine the crash scene, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) announced Tuesday.

"Unclear if automated control system was active at the time of the crash. Issues examined include post-crash fire, steps to make the vehicle safe for removal from the scene," NTSB tweeted.

The announcement caused an eight-percent drop in the price of Tesla shares, according to Marketwatch.

Telsa expressed its condolences in a statement after the crash and promised the authorities full cooperation in any investigation.
