The United Nations has called for provision of more resources on urgent basis to meet the needs of flood victims in Pakistan.

The demand was made by UN Secretary-General's Spokesman, Stephane Dujarric, at his regular briefing in New York, during which an update on the situation left behind by the devastating floods in August this year was presented.

The spokesman said with the arrival of winter, the humanitarian needs of flood-affected people of Pakistan have intensified.

He said even as flood waters recede, more than twenty million people continue to depend on humanitarian aid. He reconstruction efforts are beginning in some areas.

Dujarric said in support of the government response, the UN humanitarian partners have reached more than 4.7 million people with aid since the onset of the flood. He said some 2.6 million people have received food assistance so far.
