The United States has expressed readiness to resume talks with North Korea with the aim of denuclearising North Korea by 2021.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said this in a statement after Pyongyang pledged to dismantle its key missile facilities and suggested it would close its main Yongbyon nuclear complex if Washington took certain actions, which it did not specify.
Mike Pompeo said he had invited North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong-ho to meet him in New York next week, while invitations had been extended for a second meeting between North Korean and US representatives in Vienna, Austria.
Meanwhile, South Korea leader Moon Jae-in with his North Korea counterpart said at a joint news conference in Pyongyong that North Korea will also allow experts from concerned countries to watch the closure of its missile engine testing site and launch pad at Tongchang-ri.
China has welcomed the agreement reached in Pyongyang and said it strongly supports it.
